Crafted at the Yamazaki distillery — Japan's first and oldest, founded in 1923 at the foot of Mount Tennozan — it's a masterful vatting of malts matured across several cask types: vibrant ex-red wine casks, older Spanish sherry casks (some around twenty years old), and prized Japanese Mizunara oak. This careful layering gives the whisky its signature red-fruit lift, sherried depth and the fragrant, incense-like Mizunara character that is unmistakably Yamazaki.

Tasting Notes
The nose leads with classic Yamazaki strawberry and cherry from the wine casks, underpinned by dried fruit, fragrant sandalwood and a whisper of coconut and vanilla from the Mizunara. The palate is fruity and rounded — raspberry, white peach and red berries giving way to light oak, juicy malt and a gentle spice. The finish is clean and lingering, with sweet vanilla rounded off by a final flourish of cinnamon.

Serves Best With
Excellent neat or with a few drops of water in a tulip glass to open up the red-fruit and Mizunara aromatics. It also makes a beautifully fragrant highball — 45ml over ice topped with chilled soda water — or a refined base for a Japanese-style Old Fashioned. On the table, pair with sushi and sashimi, soft and creamy cheeses, berry or stone-fruit desserts, or duck with a cherry glaze, where its fruit character shines without overpowering.
