The Gospel Solera Rye is the flagship expression from The Gospel Distillers — a Melbourne-based craft distillery that has built its entire identity around one grain: rye. Crafted from 100% single-source unmalted rye grown in the Murray Mallee region of South Australia, one of the driest and harshest farming regions on the continent, the rye grain used here is notably small, dense, and flavour-packed — qualities that translate directly into the glass as a bold, characterful spirit unlike anything produced from rye grown elsewhere in the world.

Double distilled through a column still followed by a copper pot still, the new make spirit enters The Gospel's most distinctive production feature — a bespoke five-tiered solera maturation system. The solera method, an ancient technique long employed to perfect Sherry, Port, and even certain beers, sees spirit move progressively through a series of barrels — in this case new American oak, second-fill American oak, and Australian red wine barrels — with a portion of aged spirit remaining in each tier at every bottling. The result is a whiskey of consistent, layered complexity that carries the accumulated character of multiple barrel types and varying ages in every batch. Tasting Notes
Warm amber in the glass. The nose is inviting and richly layered — baking spices, rich caramel sweetness, stewed plum, and port wine, with hints of bread and butter pudding, golden syrup, and poached apple. The palate is smooth, sweet, and pleasingly complex — toffee apple, toasted rye bread, orchard fruits, dark toffee, brown sugar, and bright baking spice, with the Australian red wine barrel influence adding a distinctive berry and grape depth that sets it apart from American rye. The finish is rich and moderately long, carrying dried fruits, fresh spice, and a lingering warmth.

Serves Best With
Excellent neat or over ice as an everyday sipper, and outstanding in cocktails where its bold rye character and wine-barrel influence can shine. The Gospel's own recommended serve is a simple Rye and Dry Ginger Ale with a slice of orange — refreshing, approachable, and crowd-pleasing.
