Nikka Yoichi Apple Brandy Wood Finish is a Japanese single malt whisky produced at the Yoichi Distillery, located in Yoichi, Hokkaido, Japan. The distillery was founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, who is widely regarded as the father of Japanese whisky. This limited edition expression was finished in ex-apple brandy casks for six months prior to bottling, a process that imparts a delicate layer of apple-fruit character to the Yoichi single malt's established profile of rich malt, light peat and gentle smokiness. The whisky is bottled at 47% ABV without chill filtration. On the nose, delicate apple and pear notes layer over the characteristic Yoichi aromas of malt, mild peat smoke and sea air. The palate is smooth, with apple-orchard fruitiness integrating harmoniously with malt, light toffee and smoky notes. The finish is long and complex, with fruit and smoke in balance.
