Martell VS Cognac is produced by Martell & Co, founded in 1715 by Jean Martell and based in Cognac, France, making it the oldest of the major Cognac houses. Martell draws on a long tradition of selecting eaux-de-vie from across the Cognac appellation, with a particular emphasis on the Borderies cru, which the house regards as a signature component of its distinctive style. The VS expression represents the entry point of the Martell range, composed of eaux-de-vie aged for a minimum of two years in fine-grained Tronçais or Limousin oak casks. The Martell style is characterised by a softer, drier profile compared to other major houses. On the nose, fresh fruit, light floral notes and subtle wood are present. The palate is soft, slightly dry and accessible, with fruit, oak and a gentle spice. The finish is smooth and of medium length.
