Jim Barry Watervale Riesling takes its name from the Watervale sub-district of Clare Valley — one of the most celebrated Riesling-producing areas within Australia's preeminent Riesling region. Watervale has a distinctive character: slightly warmer than the higher-elevation Clare and Polish Hill sites, producing Riesling of riper citrus and tropical fruit character while retaining the natural acidity that Clare Valley Riesling is celebrated for. Jim Barry has a long association with the Watervale district, where the estate's vineyards produce consistent, expressive Riesling. This wine presents a pale straw colour and a vibrant, aromatic nose of ripe lime, lemon, passionfruit, and mandarin with a characteristic mineral note. On the palate it is dry and refreshing with lively natural acidity, riper citrus and tropical fruit flavours than higher-elevation Clare Riesling, and a long, clean finish.
