Hennessy XO (Extra Old) Cognac was created in 1870 by Maurice Hennessy as a private blend for family and friends, and is credited with establishing the XO classification that is now used across the Cognac industry. Produced by Maison Hennessy in Cognac, France, and constituted from a blend of more than 100 eaux-de-vie, each aged for a minimum of 10 years in Limousin oak, with some aged for up to 30 years. On the nose, the XO is richly complex, with aromas of candied fruit, dark chocolate, subtle floral notes and warming spice, underpinned by deep toasted oak. The palate is full-bodied and layered, with notes of spiced fruit, dark chocolate, coffee and rancio. The finish is exceptionally long, warming and complex, the hallmark of extended Cognac maturation at this level.
