Glendalough Wild Rose Gin is one of the most heartfelt and distinctive gins to emerge from Ireland's modern craft distilling revival. Produced at Glendalough Distillery in the Wicklow Mountains of County Wicklow, this intensely floral gin began as a deeply personal creation — crafted by Head Distiller Ciaran "Rowdy" Rooney to honour his late mother Rose at his younger brother's wedding, using flowers from her own carefully tended garden. That story of love and remembrance is woven into every bottle.
Built on the foundation of Glendalough's acclaimed Wild Botanical Gin recipe, the Rose expression takes things further by incorporating three distinct varieties of rose — the rare and elusive Wild Rose from the Wicklow mountains, large fragrant Heritage Roses, and the ancient, prized Damask Rose. Fresh rose petals are slowly vapour distilled alongside wild botanicals foraged from the mountains surrounding the distillery, a gentle process that preserves the delicate floral oils and creates an intensely aromatic and layered spirit. After distillation, the gin is further infused with additional roses to deepen the flavour and produce its naturally beautiful pink hue — no artificial colouring, no shortcuts. Bottled at 37.5% ABV, it is elegant, distinctive, and far more complex than the crowded pink gin category would suggest.
Tasting Notes
Naturally pale pink and clear in the glass. The nose is deeply aromatic and perfumed — bright lemon, blood orange, soft juniper, and a wave of fresh rose petal that is immediately captivating. The palate is rich and floral, delivering distinct rose, bright red berries, Turkish Delight, and citrus, with a lovely nectar-like sweetness that is never cloying. The finish is lingering, fragrant, and gently spiced, with floral notes that fade gracefully.
Serves Best With
Exceptional in a classic Gin and Tonic — pour 45ml over ice in a large copa glass, top with premium light tonic water, and garnish with fresh rose petals and a slice of pink grapefruit. Also superb in a Ramos Gin Fizz or a floral Spritz with prosecco and elderflower. Pairs beautifully with light canapés, fresh strawberries, or floral desserts.
