Glendalough Double Barrel is the approachable, everyday expression from Glendalough Distillery in the Wicklow Mountains of County Wicklow, Ireland — and the whiskey that introduced many drinkers to the brand. Built on a foundation of triple-distilled Irish grain whiskey, it undergoes a two-cask maturation process that gives it a notably richer and more complex character than most Irish whiskeys at a comparable price point.

The whiskey is first matured in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels, which establish the classic Irish whiskey backbone of vanilla, honey, and soft fruit. It is then transferred into Spanish Oloroso Sherry butts for a secondary finishing period, which layers on additional sweetness, dried fruit, and warm spice, adding a depth and roundness that sets it apart from single-cask expressions. The result is a smooth, well-balanced, and highly approachable whiskey that reflects Glendalough's commitment to thoughtful wood management and quality maturation. Non-chill filtered and bottled at 43% ABV, it is an excellent entry point into the Glendalough range and a versatile bottle equally at home neat, on the rocks, or in cocktails.

Tasting Notes
Warm amber gold in the glass. The nose is inviting and sweet — citrus zest, vanilla, caramel, banana, and a gentle hint of Sherry-soaked dried fruit. The palate is smooth and medium-bodied, delivering toffee pear, treacle, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a subtle grapefruit bitterness that keeps the sweetness in check. The finish is creamy and satisfying, with vanilla, toasted oak, forest fruit, and a whisper of almond lingering pleasantly.

Serves Best With
Excellent neat or over ice, and one of the more versatile Irish whiskeys for cocktails — particularly in a classic Whiskey Sour, Irish Coffee, or simple serve with ginger ale and a wedge of lemon. Pairs well with mild cheeses, dark chocolate, and desserts with caramel or toffee character.
