Fuji Single Grain is a landmark expression from Kirin's celebrated Fuji Gotemba Distillery — one of the most technically sophisticated and geographically blessed whisky distilleries in the world. Located on the southeastern slopes of the iconic Mount Fuji in Shizuoka Prefecture, the distillery has been producing exceptional Japanese whisky since its establishment in 1973, drawing on the extraordinarily pure glacial snowmelt water that flows from Japan's most sacred mountain. For decades, these whiskies quietly served as a foundation for Kirin's blended expressions, largely unknown to the outside world. Fuji Single Grain brings this exceptional liquid into the spotlight and lets it speak for itself.

What makes Fuji Single Grain genuinely unique in the world of grain whisky is the distillery's remarkable production diversity. Rather than relying on a single distillation method, Master Blender Jota Tanaka draws on three entirely different grain distillates, each produced using a different still type — a light style from traditional column stills, a medium style from a rare Batch Kettle still, and an intense style from a Double Still, a method found virtually nowhere outside the world of bourbon. This tri-distillate approach, employing corn as the primary grain, allows Tanaka to achieve a complexity, texture, and layered character that is far beyond what single-method grain whisky can deliver. The resulting expression is aged in American white oak casks and bottled at 46% ABV — a higher strength than many Japanese whiskies that allows the full flavour profile to express itself with confidence and clarity.

Tasting Notes
Pale gold in the glass. The nose is elegant and inviting — floral notes give way to poached pear, pear tart, candied chestnut, hazelnut, and orange peel, with a subtle black tea and elderflower quality in the background. The palate is smooth, multi-layered, and genuinely impressive for a grain whisky — apple compote, poached pears, dark chocolate, cinnamon spice, and toasted rye bread, with a creamy texture and more depth and weight than the style typically delivers. The finish is mellow, gently sweet, and pleasantly spiced — tannins and incense fade slowly alongside a lingering warmth of cinnamon and oak.

Serves Best With
Excellent neat or over a large ice cube to appreciate the full complexity of its three-style grain blend. Also superb in a Japanese Highball — pour 45ml over large ice cubes, top with chilled sparkling water, and garnish with a thin slice of pear. Pairs beautifully with light Japanese cuisine, fresh sashimi, chestnut-based desserts, or delicate fruit tarts.
