From the legendary Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky comes Eagle Rare — a benchmark Kentucky straight bourbon aged for no less than ten years and bottled at 45% ABV (90 proof). Built on Buffalo Trace's low-rye Mash #1 (the same recipe behind several of the distillery's most coveted whiskeys), each barrel is hand-selected for character, delivering remarkable consistency with an individual personality from bottle to bottle. Tasting Notes
The nose is complex and inviting — toffee, honey and toasted oak lifted by orange peel, herbs, leather and a hint of cocoa. The palate is bold yet delicate, balancing candied almonds and rich cocoa with caramel, charred oak, vanilla and a gentle peppery spice. The finish is dry and lingering, closing with toffee, oak and creamy vanilla.
Serves Best With
Best enjoyed neat or over a single large ice cube, with a few drops of water to open its layered fruit and oak. Its balance and age make it a superb cocktail base — for a classic Old Fashioned, stir 60ml Eagle Rare with 1 teaspoon sugar syrup and 2 dashes of Angostura bitters over ice, strain over a large cube and garnish with an expressed orange peel. It also makes an excellent Whiskey Sour or Manhattan. On the food side, pair with grilled steak, smoked brisket, aged cheddar, pecan pie or dark chocolate.
