Jameson 18 Year Old Limited Reserve is the elder statesman of the Jameson portfolio and one of the most decorated aged Irish whiskeys available anywhere in the world. Produced at the New Midleton Distillery in County Cork, it represents the pinnacle of Jameson's blending craft — a whiskey that has been allowed nearly two decades of patient maturation before being deemed ready for bottling.
A unique blend of three distinct distillates — triple-distilled single pot still whiskey made from malted and unmalted barley, and fine grain whiskey — each component is aged for a minimum of 18 years in a combination of hand-selected American bourbon barrels and European oak casks previously seasoned with Sherry. The whiskey is then brought together for a final marrying period of at least six months in first-fill American oak barrels, a step that knits the blend seamlessly and adds a final layer of vanilla sweetness and complexity. Bottled at 46% ABV and non-chill filtered following a 2022 upgrade, each bottle is individually numbered — a mark of its status as a genuine limited release. Awarded 95 points by Wine Enthusiast and a Double Gold Medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, it is a whiskey that demands and rewards full attention.
Tasting Notes
Deep golden amber in the glass. The nose is elegant and expressive — aromatic oils, spicy toffee, baked apple, ripe pear, honeyed malt, and vanilla pod, with subtle hints of toasted almond, clove, and seasoned oak developing with time. The palate is silky, layered, and deeply satisfying — rich toffee, creamy vanilla, dried apricot, marzipan, gentle Sherry nuttiness, and hints of leather and dark chocolate, all underpinned by a refined oak spice that builds through the mid-palate. The finish is long, warm, and beautifully balanced, with lingering wood spice, toffee, and a whisper of savoury warmth that fades gracefully.
Serves Best With
Best savoured neat or with a few drops of still water to open up the aromatic complexity. A single large ice cube is also an excellent option. For those who prefer to mix, it performs beautifully in a premium Irish Old Fashioned — stir 60ml with a sugar cube and two dashes of Angostura bitters, strain over a large ice cube, and garnish with an orange twist. Each individually numbered bottle also makes an exceptional gift for a whiskey enthusiast.
