Bas-Armagnac is widely regarded as producing the most refined and complex expression of Armagnac, due to the sandy soil composition of the region. Vintage Armagnacs from Laubade are distilled in a traditional alambic still from a blend of four grape varieties — Ugni Blanc, Folle Blanche, Colombard and Baco — grown on the estate's 105 hectares of vineyard. The 1980 expression has been aged for over four decades in Gascony oak casks before bottling. On the nose, fine aromatic complexity develops, with notes of dried fruit, almond, fig, subtle rancio and vanilla. The palate is supple and harmonious, with long-aged complexity, dried fruit and a distinctive Armagnac character.
