Canadian Club 20 Year Old is the flagship premium expression from Canada's most iconic whisky distillery, representing two full decades of patient maturation at the historic Hiram Walker Distillery in Windsor, Ontario. Built on the same foundation as the beloved Canadian Club Original, it follows the brand's distinctive pre-ageing blending philosophy — a blend of rye, rye malt, corn, and barley malt spirits are combined before entering the barrel rather than after, allowing the component spirits to harmonise and integrate over the full twenty years of white American oak maturation.
The result of this extended ageing is a whisky that demonstrates what time and quality wood can do to an already smooth and well-crafted Canadian blend. Where the Original and 12 Year Old are built for everyday enjoyment and versatile mixing, the 20 Year Old is unambiguously a sipping whisky — one that rewards patience and attention with a depth and richness that sets it firmly apart from its younger siblings in the Canadian Club range. Two decades in charred American oak barrels have coaxed out layers of caramel, dried fruit, warm spice, and a pronounced oakiness that is a hallmark of well-aged Canadian whisky. Bottled at 40% ABV, it is smooth, refined, and thoroughly enjoyable — a benchmark expression of what aged Canadian whisky can achieve.
Tasting Notes
Rich mahogany amber in the glass. The nose is inviting and complex — brown sugar, caramel, dried fruit, vanilla, orange zest, and a gentle musty oak character, with hints of maple syrup and bran developing with time. The palate is smooth, full-bodied, and well-rounded — toffee, butterscotch, maple syrup, spiced rye, cinnamon, clove, and a warm nuttiness, underpinned by a firm but pleasing oakiness. The finish is long, sweet, and gently peppery, with vanilla, dried fruit, and toasted wood lingering satisfyingly.
Serves Best With
Best savoured neat or over a single large ice cube to fully appreciate the complexity earned through two decades of maturation. A small splash of still water can help open the nose further. For cocktails, it performs beautifully in a premium Old Fashioned or a Manhattan where its rich rye spice and oak character shine. Pairs well with aged cheddar, dark chocolate, or a fine charcuterie board.
