Inspired by the illustrious original that was made for only a fortunate few. For 70 years Mortlach was the best kept secret in the world of whisky. From 1923 until 1992 our robust and complex whisky was used as the cornerstone of some of the 20th century’s most iconic scotch whisky blends. Even the distillery workers were only able to taste the fruits of their labours layered amongst other whiskies of Scotland. However, at the beginning of the 1990’s Mortlach’s fate changed course forever. We decided it was time to unleash “The Beast of Dufftown” and release a 16 year old so a fortunate few, including our distillery workers, could enjoy Mortlach unadulterated and at its most elegant. This Single Malt Scotch Whisky is inspired by the iconic and rewarding first bottling of the 16 year old released in 1992. It has been matured in only Sherry casks to impart rich, fruity and fragrant notes atop the beasty complexity synonymous with Mortlach.
